Jazz meets Brazil: Mike del Ferro Trio with Ceumar
A beautiful mix of authentic Brazilian music and wayward jazz will be presented to you on this evening between the palmtrees at the Institute of Social Studies.
After a classical start pianist Mike del Ferrostudied light music at the Amsterdam Conservatory and finished his study in 1990 cum laude  as an executive Jazz musician with a  annotation Classical. In 1989 he won three important awards; the first prize  (a grand piano) of the National Pianoconcours Lichte Muziek in Rotterdam and the award for soloists of  the International Euro Jazz Contest in Brussel. He also won the first prize on a jazzconcours in the Czech Republic.
Meanwhile Mike del Ferro has obtained  much respect by musicians as well as by the press because of his virtuoso playing, improvisations and his own style of arranging. The result of this are many performances all over the world with topmusicians from Holland and abroad.
Ceumar got a beautiful name when she was born ‘ Ceu’ means heaven, ‘mar’ means sea. And that is how her voice sounds: simple and naturally, never intrusive, earthly and heavenly at the same time. The music of the state where she was born Minas Gerais – specially the music of Milton Nascimento – formed the style Ceumar developed. The frankness of del Ferro’s pianoplaying, the Brazilian swing and drive of funky drummer Olaf Keus and bassplayer Frans van der Hoeven  together form a tight and firm foundation.
